Frequently Asked Questions

A quick guide to common questions about getting started, therapy services, scheduling, fees, and what to expect at AMP Therapy Center. It's typical to have questions and want to ease your worries with these answers. We hope they are helpful!

Getting Started

  1. How do I get started?

    • Getting started is simple! Begin by reaching out through our contact form, phone, or email to schedule your free 15–20 minute consultation. During your consultation, we'll learn more about what brings you to therapy, answer your questions, and determine whether AMP Therapy Center is the right fit for your needs. If you decide to move forward, we'll help you schedule your first appointment.

  2. How does counseling work? What happens in a session?

    • Counseling sessions are what you make them. Your therapist will meet you where you are and together you will work collaboratively to reach your identified goals. Your first appointment will be an intake session where you will have the opportunity to share the details of what has been going on and together with your therapist develop a treatment plan for counseling. Next, you will most likely start off meeting with your therapist weekly or biweekly for your recurring counseling sessions. In session, you and your therapist will work together to reach the identified goals and begin the healing process. These sessions will slowly taper in frequency as you begin to see and feel the progress. Eventually, counseling will come to an end as you reach the termination process and feel confident in your therapy journey.

  3. Why would I pay a counselor when I can just talk to my friends or family?

    • While friends and family are an important part of your support system, a counselor has specific educational training that may offer a new perspective that those closest to you cannot. Counselors can teach you coping skills and techniques to help you understand why you may be feeling the way you are, or process situations you have been through. If talking with friends and family is not helping you heal, know that you don't have to suffer alone. Seek professional help and we are happy to support you along your therapy journey.

  4. How do I know if I need counseling?

    • Counseling can be beneficial for people of all ages and stages. It's never too early or too late to begin counseling. We are all human and let's be honest, life gets tough sometimes. Even the best, most experienced, counselors out there seek their own counseling from time to time. If you are questioning or considering counseling, then there is most likely a reason. Let's chat to see if one of our therapists is a good fit, and if not, that's okay. We can work together to make referrals to providers that best meet your needs. The ultimate goal is for you to feel comfortable, confident, and on a path towards healing.

Therapy Services

  1. What type of therapy services do you offer?

    • AMP Therapy Center provides specialized mental health services for women, mothers, children, and families throughout Texas. Our areas of specialized clinical care include Perinatal Mental Health Therapy, Women's Mental Health Counseling, Play Therapy, and Perinatal Loss Counseling. Visit our Therapy Services page to learn more about each specialty and find the service that best meets your needs.

  2. What if I'm too nervous, sad, or exhausted to get myself to an office for an appointment?

    • Don't worry! Life is challenging and sometimes our emotions get the best of us. This is why we offer online counseling sessions. Put the baby down for a nap, send the kids off to play in the other room, and get comfy in the most relaxing spot in your home. At the click of a button on your phone, laptop, or ipad, you can start this journey together with your therapist.

  3. What if I live outside of Texas?

    • AMP Therapy Center providers are currently only licensed in Texas, therefore they can only provide clinical services to clients who reside in the state of Texas. We provide online counseling services throughout Texas so that our therapists can work with clients no matter the city or town.

Appointments & Scheduling

  1. How do I schedule an appointment?

    • If you are a new client or prospective client, you can contact us by calling, texting, emailing, or submitting our contact form to schedule a free phone consultation. If you are a current active client, you can request an appointment with your therapist through your client portal. Feel free to call or email your therapist directly for additional scheduling questions or inquiries.

  2. What are your hours of operation?

    • Sessions are scheduled by appointment only based on the availability of each therapist. You can  contact us Monday through Friday to schedule an appointment and expect a response within 24 hours. Sending an email or submitting our contact form are the best ways to reach us as our therapists are often in sessions with clients and unable to answer phone calls.

Insurance & Fees

  1. Will my health insurance cover the cost of my session?

    • At this time AMP Therapy Center is an out-of-network (OON) provider, therefore all services are self-pay. We can provide you with a superbill to submit for possible insurance reimbursement for therapy services paid out of pocket. To see if you have OON coverage, go to your insurance company website or call the number on the back of your card. Sessions can be paid by Visa, American Express, Mastercard, or Health Savings Account.

  2. What are your rates?

    • The initial one-time intake session is $190, and individual counseling sessions are $165. Sliding Scale options are available upon request and based on availability.

  3. What is the No Surprises Act?

    • The No Surprises Act is a federal law that requires out-of-network health care providers to provide clients with a Good Faith Estimate before services begin. This estimate helps you understand the expected cost of your care and avoid unexpected charges.
